Overview

Get AI Literate (“GAIL”, “we”, “our”, or “us”) operates the website at getailiterate.ai (the “Site”), including the AI Literacy Assessment, our newsletter, contact forms, downloadable resources, and journal. We are committed to protecting your privacy. This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have.

By using the Site, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy.

Who We Are

The Site is operated by Frederick L. Faulkner IV, located in Illinois, United States. For any privacy questions, contact us at privacy@getailiterate.ai.

Information We Collect

Information You Provide

  • Assessment responses. Your answers to AI Literacy Assessment questions, used to calculate your scores and provide personalized recommendations.
  • Demographic information. Anonymous demographic details such as your year in school, major/field of study, and AI usage frequency. This is used to provide peer comparisons and to improve the assessment.
  • Email address. If you choose to receive your assessment results by email, subscribe to our newsletter, request a downloadable resource, or contact us, we collect your email address (and any name or message you provide).
  • Contact form and correspondence. Information you submit through our contact forms or send to us directly, including any message content.
  • Feedback survey responses. If you complete the feedback survey or comprehensive survey (hosted on Google Forms), we collect your responses. If you opt in to share a quote, we collect that quote and — only with your permission — your year in school and major/field of study, which we may use as a testimonial about GAIL (see “How We Use Your Information”). You may provide a quote anonymously.
  • Comments. If you comment on a journal post, we collect the content of your comment and any name or email you provide.

Information Collected Automatically

  • Analytics and technical information. We use Google Analytics to understand how visitors use the Site. This collects technical and usage data such as browser type, device type, pages viewed, referring source, and general location (country/region), typically tied to a cookie-based or device identifier. See “Third-Party Services” and “Cookies and Local Storage.”
  • Local storage. We use your browser’s local storage to save your assessment progress so you can resume if interrupted. This data is stored only on your device and is automatically cleared when you complete or abandon the assessment.
  • Cookies. The Site uses essential cookies required for it to function, plus analytics cookies set by Google Analytics and cookies set by the other services described under “Third-Party Services” below. See “Cookies and Local Storage.”

Legal Bases for Processing

Where applicable law requires a legal basis (for example, under the EU/UK GDPR), we rely on: your consent (e.g., newsletter sign-up, optional email results, research use); the performance of a service you request (e.g., delivering assessment results or resources); and our legitimate interests (e.g., securing the Site, understanding aggregate usage). You may withdraw consent at any time.

Third-Party Services

We share information with service providers only as needed to operate the Site. These include:

  • Google Analytics (Google LLC) — website analytics. Google processes usage and device data to help us understand Site traffic and may set cookies and identifiers. Google’s handling of this data is governed by the Google Privacy Policy. You can opt out using the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.
  • Google Forms (Google LLC) — hosts our feedback and comprehensive surveys; survey responses you submit are processed and stored by Google on our behalf.
  • Kit (ConvertKit) — email newsletter delivery and management. If you subscribe, your email address is stored and processed by Kit.
  • Akismet (Automattic) — spam filtering for comments and form submissions.
  • WPForms — processing of contact and resource-request form submissions.
  • Our hosting provider — to host the Site and store data securely.

These providers act on our behalf and are not permitted to use your information for their own purposes, except where their own privacy policy governs (as with Google). We do not sell your personal information.

Data Protection

We take data protection seriously and implement appropriate technical and organizational measures, including:

  • All data is transmitted using HTTPS encryption;
  • IP addresses associated with assessment data are hashed and cannot be linked back to individuals;
  • Assessment data is stored separately from any identifying information;
  • We do not sell or share individual data with third parties except the service providers listed above;
  • Data is retained only as long as necessary for the purposes described in this policy.

No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Data Retention

We retain personal information only as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes described in this policy or as required by law. Anonymized and aggregate data may be retained indefinitely for research and analytics. You may request deletion of your personal data at any time (see “Your Rights”).

Your Rights

Depending on your location, you have the right to:

  • Access your assessment results and the personal information we hold about you;
  • Request correction of inaccurate information;
  • Request deletion of your data;
  • Opt out of receiving communications (every newsletter email includes an unsubscribe link);
  • Withdraw consent at any time;
  • Object to or restrict certain processing;
  • Request a portable copy of your data.

To exercise these rights, contact us at privacy@getailiterate.ai. We will respond within the timeframe required by applicable law.

If you are in the EU/UK, you also have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority. If you are a California resident, we do not sell your personal information, and you may exercise the rights described above without discrimination.

Cookies and Local Storage

We use local storage to save your assessment progress so you can resume if interrupted. This data is stored only on your device and is automatically cleared when you complete or abandon the assessment.

We use essential cookies required for the Site to function and analytics cookies set by Google Analytics to measure how the Site is used. Other third-party services listed above (such as Kit and Akismet) may also set their own cookies. You can control or block cookies through your browser settings; disabling some cookies may affect Site functionality. You can opt out of Google Analytics specifically using the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.

Research, Reports & Published Insights

Aggregate, anonymized data from the assessment, the feedback survey, and the comprehensive survey may be used for academic research on AI literacy and to create published content — including reports, statistics, trend analyses, benchmarks, and editorial pieces about AI literacy.

This content may be published on the Site, in our newsletter, or shared publicly. It is always based on aggregate, anonymized data: individual responses cannot be identified in any published material. Participation in the assessment or surveys implies consent to use anonymized data for these research and publication purposes.

Published testimonials are handled separately and only with your consent — see “How We Use Your Information.”

Children’s Privacy

The Site is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your jurisdiction). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this privacy policy from time to time. Changes will be posted on this page with an updated revision date. Continued use of the Site after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
