About GAIL4 Q’s
Get AI Literate is an independent project that makes AI literacy a measurable, teachable competency. It centers on a 7-pillar framework and a free assessment that scores you across every pillar so you know which skills to build first.
Primarily students in business, marketing, and communications programs entering an AI-changed workforce. The framework and assessment are also used by career centers, employers, and individual professionals who want a shared language for AI fluency.
No. GAIL is an independent project, debt-free, and built on the premise that students own their AI literacy, not their school, not a tool vendor, not a future employer. The framework is published openly for that reason.
Fred Faulkner built it, and he’ll tell you that straight: GAIL is one person, bootstrapped, with no advisory board and no institutional backing. What’s behind the framework is 25+ years in marketing and advertising, daily hands-on work with AI tools, and teaching this material to real students. The seven pillars were then mapped against the UNESCO AI Competency Framework, AACSB guidance on technology in business education, the NIST AI Risk Management Framework, and Long and Magerko’s peer-reviewed AI literacy competencies. Mapping isn’t endorsement. GAIL isn’t accredited by an academic accrediting body, and the 7-Pillar Framework isn’t endorsed by UNESCO, AACSB, or NIST.
The assessment5 Q’s
About 12 minutes. It’s 21 questions, three for each pillar. Your progress saves in your browser, so if you step away you can pick up where you left off, as long as you’re back within about 30 minutes.
Yes. The full assessment, your pillar-by-pillar report, and the downloadable PDF are free. No credit card. The paid part is the courses. There’s no institutional plan yet (see “What about schools and career centers?” below).
No. You’ll see your full results without giving us an email. When you finish, your answers and scores are saved on our side, along with the answers you gave at the start (your year in school, your major, and how often you use AI) and how long you took, so we can show peer comparisons and improve the questions. Your name and email are only attached if you add them. You can email your results to yourself or copy a share link. Both are optional. If you’re taking it through a class link from an instructor, the link may ask for your email before you start, and your results are emailed to you when you finish.
Yes, whenever you want. There’s no waiting period. We recommend retaking after a focused learning sprint, say, 4–6 weeks working on one weak pillar, to see what moved.
Each pillar gets its own score from 0 to 100 and a band: Novice (0 to 49), Developing (50 to 74), Proficient (75 to 89), or Advanced (90 and up). Your overall score is the average of the seven. Each pillar page explains what the bands mean.
Pricing & plans2 Q’s
The assessment, your report, the framework, the glossary, and everything published on this site are free, with no account required. The courses are the paid part: one pillar course is $49, the four Foundation Courses are $99, and the Full Program is $149. Each is a single payment with lifetime access, not a subscription. The courses aren’t open yet. Join the newsletter to hear when they are.
There’s no institutional plan or price list yet, and we’d rather say that than publish numbers for something that doesn’t exist. Today, the framework, the assessment, and everything published on this site are free for your students to use right now. If you want to build that into a course, a readiness program, or a cohort-wide benchmark, email Fred at fred@getailiterate.ai and tell him what you’re trying to do. That conversation is how the institutional version gets designed.
Privacy & data5 Q’s
If you take the assessment on your own, we don’t share your results with your school, your career center, or anyone else. If you share your results link, anyone with the link can see that page.
If you took it through a class link from an instructor, it works differently. Your instructor can see how the class did as a group, and depending on how the class link was set up, they may also see your individual results: your email, the answers you gave at the start, your scores, how you answered each question, and how much you moved between your first and second attempt. If you’re not sure which applies to you, ask your instructor or email privacy@getailiterate.ai.
FERPA is the federal law that protects student education records, and it’s the law your institution follows. We’re not going to put “FERPA-compliant” on a web page before we’ve done that work with an actual institution. If you’d like to use GAIL with a class or a cohort, email Fred first at fred@getailiterate.ai. Before any student starts, we’ll go through exactly what data is collected and who sees it, so your institution can decide what agreement it wants in place.
Your assessment results are stored with Cloudflare, the service that runs the assessment. When you finish, a short summary (your score, how long you took, and the answers you gave at the start) is also posted to GAIL’s Slack workspace so Fred can see new results come in. If you took it through a class link, that summary includes your email. When we email your results, that email is sent through Resend. We use Google Analytics to count how many people start and finish the assessment.
Yes. Email privacy@getailiterate.ai from the address you used, or send us your results link, and we’ll delete your results and confirm by email once it’s done. There isn’t a self-serve delete button yet, so email is the way for now. If you took it through a class link and your instructor could see individual results, they may already have saved a copy. We can’t delete that one for you, so ask them too.
No. We don’t train AI models on your data, and the assessment doesn’t send your answers to any AI service. The questions, scoring, and recommendations are built and maintained by GAIL.
For educators3 Q’s
Not yet. Students take the assessment at assessment.getailiterate.ai, and you can post that link anywhere, including inside a Canvas or Blackboard course.
Not today. Every student gets the same seven pillars, scored the same way. If your program needs something different, email Fred at fred@getailiterate.ai and tell him what and why.
Not as a packaged kit yet. The framework pages and the free resources library are yours to use in a class or workshop today. Fred also leads workshops for classes and student groups, so if you want a session on a specific pillar, email him.
Using your results3 Q’s
Lead with your strong pillars. Show the report PDF if asked, it reads like a transcript. The framework is new, so assume the person across the table hasn’t seen it. The PDF explains it on the first page, and the more useful move is talking about what you did with what you learned.
That’s the point of taking it now, while you have time. The report tells you exactly which 2 to 3 pillars to focus on, and you can retake it after you’ve worked on them to see what changed.
You can share your results link or post about it, and there’s a LinkedIn share button on your results page. The free assessment isn’t a certification, though, so it doesn’t belong under Licenses & Certifications. When the courses launch, GAIL certificates will come from passing a course exam, and each one will have a public verification link.
Ask us directly, we read everything that comes in.
If your question isn’t covered above, drop us a note. We answer within a business day, and if your question turns out to be a common one, we’ll add it here so the next person can find it faster.
The fastest answer to “should I use GAIL?” is taking the 12-minute assessment.
